Second Chance in Montana
TU's Sportsmen's Conservation Project is working to support U.S. Sen. Jon Tester's Forest Jobs and Recreation Act in Montana, which, through collaboration with a wide array of partners, would create the first new wilderness in Big Sky country in a generation. The last wilderness bill in Montana was vetoed by President Reagan. Tester's bill would not only designate hundreds of thousands of pristine acres as wilderness, it would guarantee other public lands users access to land for motorized recreation. Additionally, it would work to assure jobs in the forest products industry, making it possible for Montana's youth to have good-paying jobs waiting for them should they choose to stay home and work. The SCP visited one of the area's proposed wilderness areas recently with a handful of interested media. We're happy to report the fishing is stellar--protecting it under Sen. Tester's bill will ensure it stays that way--forever.
